Terry Hardman stated that his favourite thing is public outreach. He also demonstrated a 7-21mm eyepiece and green laser pointer.

Bob Anderson talked about some of his favourite books, “The Messier Objects”, “Nightwatch”, “Sky Atlas 2000.0”, “Building Observatories”, “Alvin Clarke Telescopes”,

Roy Swanson talked about the book “Turn Left at Orion”. Roy also explained why meteors are more numerous after midnight using the analogy of bugs splattered on the front, not back window of a moving car. He encouraged the group to look for Perseid meteors this August.

Phil Mozel showed a NASA video image of a meteoroid hitting the moon. The object was estimated to be 1 foot wide. He also talked about one of his favourite shows “Battlestar Galactica”.

Discovery Mission

Randy Attwood spoke about and showed a video of the Discovery mission STS 121. Video cameras were mounted on the solid rocket boosters among other places. Spectacular imagery showed external tank separation, solid rocket landing in the ocean and photos of the shuttle from the ISS.
