Total Solar Eclipse March 2006, a Trip Back in History

Randy Attwood described the Calgary Centre RASC expedition to observe the total eclipse of the sun on March 29. He showed slides from Kusadasi, Miletos from where Thales predicted a solar eclipse in 585B.C., Didyma an ancient religious centre, Ephesus, Aphrosesias, Pamakkule, Hierapolis, Side and the Kaya Side Hotel from where the group observed the eclipse under clear skies.

Chris Malicki showed his pictures from the Calgary eclipse expedition.

Mike Mah, a Toronto Centre member from Richmond Hill was on the Calgary expedition for his second total eclipse. He showed 3 videos of the eclipse as well as pictures.

Gordon Rife from the South Simcoe Astronomers, showed his pictures from Didyma, Ephesus, Sirnice and from eclipse day in Side.  Gordon had some interesting pictures of the eclipse site. He showed images of the partial phases, diamond ring, corona and some of his eclipse video.

After joining up with the group, he travelled into the Sahara desert to the eclipse site. Bob described the site, dust in the air and his eclipse experience. He spoke about the next 3 total eclipses in 2008, 2009, 2010.

Roy Swanson described 2 books “Observing Guide to the Messier Marathon” which describes Messier object according to their latitude, and the book “2005 Universe” with its beautiful astronomical images.
