Books of Interest

 

Hugh Dessert presented books of interest to the amateur astronomer: Videoastronomy (Massey, Dobbins, Douglass), Guide to Observing and Discovering Comets (David Levy), Guide to Variable Stars (David Levy), Astronomy with a Home Computer (Mortis), Visual Astronomy in the Suburbs (Cooke), Visual Astronomy under Dark Skies (Cooke),

The new Amateur Astronomer (Mobberley). An Acre of Glass (Zirker), Star Gazer (Watson), Grand Observatories of the World (Brunier and Lagrange). He described the Mississauga Library system and database searching  www.mississauga.ca/partial/services/librarycatalogue .

 

Scope Shop of Ray Khan

 

Ray Khan described his telescope shop and the companies he deals with, namely William Optics, Antares, Celestron, Meade, Sky Mentor, Lumicon and the products they produce.

Eric, the partner of Ray described the Messier Marathon and how March is the best time for this.

 

The Sky Tonight

 

Roy Swanson presented this talk on objects present in the current night sky.

 

Moon observing

 

Phil Mozel spoke about lunar observing, noting Charles Wood from Sky and Telescope and his lunar 100 features, and Isabel Williamson’s list. He noted libration features which allow one to observe more than 50% of the Moon’s surface.

 

Astroimaging

 Bob Anderson showed his images of the Moon and M81.
