Masonic Times Article October 2001 Issue
Greeting Brethern,
October will be a busy month at Fairport Lodge. This Fall we will have two candidates going through the degrees. At our October 8th meeting, we will be putting on the Entered Apprentice Degree. The degree team will be lead by our Senior Warden, Brother Kermit Moyer. On Friday, October 12th, Fairport Lodge will host the Grand Lecturers Convention and Steak Dinner. The dinner will be served at 6:30 PM, followed by Grand Lecturers Convention at 7:30 PM. If you would like to attend the dinner, please RSVP to our Junior Warden, Worshipful Brother Tom Goodrich, 383-1429, by Monday, October 8, 2001.
Our meeting on October 22nd will indeed be a grand event, in which we will be presenting the DeWitt Clinton Award, Masonic Service Awards, and special recognition for our Fairport Lodge Veterans. The Awards and Veterans Recognition portion of the meeting will be open to the public. We will be advertising the program widely throughout the community, so we are expecting to have a good turnout. For the October 22nd meeting, we will open Lodge at 7 PM, conduct a brief meeting at 7:30 PM, and begin the public program at 8:00 PM, followed by refreshments and music. Hope to see you there! We are currently in the process of assembling a list of all the Fairport Lodge Veterans. If you are a Veteran, please contact Worshipful Brother George Bracht (383-1947, e-mail: geobracht@juno.com) so that he can include you in our Veterans data base.
Brethren, it is my sad duty to report the death of one of our Brothers, Worshipful Brother Michael C. Landgren. Brother Landgren was called to join the Great Architect of the Universe on August 26, 2001. A private funeral service was held for the family. Donations in memory of Brother Landgren can be make to the Liver Transplant Program, Strong Memorial Hospital, University of Rochester Medical Center, 601 Elmwood Avenue, Rochester, NY 14642-8410.
An Officers Meeting was held on September 6th to review plans and preparations for the upcoming year. We updated the Trestleboard for 2001-2002, and will be mailing it to you soon.
The process of consolidation of our Lodge with Flower City, No. 910 is proceeding smoothly. We have completed the first two steps of the process. In step 1, we informed Grand Lodge of our desire to consolidate the two Lodges. In step 2, we provided Grand Lodge information about each lodge (number of members, assets, etc.). We are currently waiting to hear back from Grand Lodge that it is okay to proceed to the next step, which includes approval of a new set of By-Laws for the consolidated Lodge. I will continue to keep you posted of the progress. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the consolidation process, please let me know. In the mean time, Flower City Lodge will be holding their meetings at the Fairport Temple on 2nd Thursday of each month at 7:30 PM. If you are can, please try to attend some of their meetings.
We are beginning the design of the Fairport Lodge web site. Sections that we are planning to have in the site, include: A Home page, Trestleboard, News (including the Minutes from our meetings), Lodge History, Officers, Freemasonry Links and Resources, Suggested Reading, and a Contact Us page. If you have any suggestions concerning the design of the site or would like to suggest or contribute to the content of the site, we would love to hear from you.
We are in the process of updating the e-mail distribution list for the Lodge. If you have not yet done so, please send an e-mail to our Secretary, Worshipful Brother George Bracht [e-mail address: geobracht@juno.com] so that he can include your address in the Lodge database.
Brethren, this promises to be an exciting year for Fairport Lodge. We have a full program lined up, and there are certainly lots of things to do. So, make an effort, and get involved! As you know, the more energy you put into something, the more you get out of it. The Lodge needs your energy and ideas. By working together we can breathe new life into Fairport Lodge!
Dont like to, or not able to, drive at night? Let us know and we will find a Brother to give you a ride to the meetings.
Finally, as always, if you have any questions, suggestions or comments, or know of a Brother in need of our aid or sympathy, please let me know [phone: (716) 223-2828; e-mail: morrisGM@corning.com]. See you in Lodge!
