Masonic Times Article November 2001 Issue
Greetings Brethren,
First Public Meeting
We had a great turn out at our first public meeting of the year in which Professor David Williams, Director of The Center for Visual Science at the University of Rochester, "wowed" the audience during his talk on "Visual Illusions and the Mystery of Sight." The visual illusions were truly impressive. Thirty-four people attended the presentation, including a number of students and teachers from Fairport High School and the middle schools. The feedback that I received was that the students and teachers who attended were still amazed and talking about the presentation the next day during school.
Awards Night
At our Award Night on October 22, 2001 we presented three Fairport Masonic Lodge "Community Service Awards." The Award recipients, Debra Tandoi, Dick Hastings and Dick Laidlaw, were recognized for their work and energy in making the Assets Building program a remarkable success in the Fairport-Perinton community. Debra, Dick and Dick were each presented an engraved plaque and gave a brief overview of the Asset Building program, its highlights and successes. The Fairport-Perinton Assets Building program is partnership between the Town of Perinton, Village of Fairport, and the Fairport Central School District, together with parents, neighbors, youth teachers, congregations, and businesses to encourage and support the healthy development of all our young people. It is a wonderful program that is truly making a difference and improving the quality of life in our community.
In addition, we presented Masonic Anniversary (60-year, 50-year, and 25-year) certificates, and also recognized and presented Veterans Recognition certificates to members of our Lodge. The event was widely publicized and was well attended. It was a special evening that provided a forum for our Brothers and members of the community to come together and celebrate our Community, our Fraternity and our Country.
Second and Third Degrees
At our meeting on November 12th, we will be conducting the Second Degree for two Brothers that are going though our degrees this Fall. On November 12th, we will open Lodge at 7:15 PM, conduct a short business meeting at 7:30 PM, and then proceed with the degree.
On December 10th, the Shrine Degree team will be performing the Third degree for our new Brothers and Lodge. They typically bring 20 to 25 brothers to put on the degree -- it is quite impressive. Preceding the degree, we will be treated to one of Worshipful Brother Tom Goodrichs famous steak dinners (Price: $5:00). The dinner will begin at 6:30 PM. A brief business meeting at will be held at 7:30 PM, followed by the degree work. If you are interested in attending the dinner, please contact either the Junior Warden, Worshipful Brother Tom Goodrich, 383-1429, or Worshipful Master Mike Morris, 223-2828, e-mail: morrisGM@corning.com for reservations. Hope to see you there!
Consolidation with Flower City Lodge, No. 910
We have received permission from Grand Lodge to proceed with the final steps for consolidation of our Lodge with Flower City Lodge, No. 910. Representatives from our two Lodges met meeting in late October to work on the necessary paper work (financial statement, draft By-Laws, etc.). To complete the process we will be holding two Summoned Meetings. [Note that you will receive formal notice for both Summoned Meeting by first-class mail.]
The first Summoned Meeting is needed to approve a Resolution to authorize and empower member of our Lodge to negotiate with representatives of Flower City Lodge, No. 910; this meeting will be held on Monday, November 26, 2001 at 7:30 PM. Approval of the Resolution requires an affirmitive vote of the majority of the members present and voting at the Summoned Meeting.
The second Summoned Meeting is needed to ratify the Agreement of Consolidation. The second meeting will be held on January 28, 2002 at 7:30 PM. Ratification, adoption and approval of the Agreement of Consolidation requires an affirmative vote of two-thirds of the members present and voting at the Summoned Meeting. My Brothers, I encourage you make an extra effort to attend and participate in these important and historic meetings of our Lodge.
Finally, as always, if you have any questions, suggestions or comments, or know of a Brother in need of our aid or sympathy, please let me know [phone: (716) 223-2828; e-mail: morrisGM@corning.com]. See you in Lodge!
