North East 4 Wheel Drive Association Run (NEA4WD)

August 9 and 10, Bradford, NH

The NEA4WD, to which Yankee Toys is a founding member, obtained permission to use land in the Bradford area of New Hampshire. This write up and its pictures are from Saturday 9, 2003, trail #1 (stock). All pictures can be seen at www.yankeetoys.org/mech/images/NEArun

The meet time at the Antrim, NH Middle School was 9:00 am. I got there an hour earlier. Already four trailer queen Jeeps were there. Two of them had no other choice but to come in a trailer. They are so built up that they are not street legal. After the mandatory introductions and jokes about Jeeps and Toyotas, and getting to know each other, people started to show up. Stock Jeeps, built jeeps, more trailer queens, then the Land Cruisers.

Walt, in his red FJ60, Rob McCarthy in his Sammy and Peter in his whiter FJ62 joined us for Trail #1, guided by Shane Beard of NEWJO. Shane has been to this particular trail before as he was in the original clean up team. We had all sorts of people for this run, from active off-roaders to first times. In all, 14 vehicles composed the "stock" group.

We headed out to the first portion of the trail, still in Antrim, a nice half mile of Jeep-wide, Class VI road with a variety of low hanging branches, enough to move roof racks and topple CB antennas. But do not be misleaded, the rain has wreaked havoc on the road and it had several 12" to 18" drops, plenty opportunity for some off camber action. Greg Pierce , from Sniper's Lair in his GMC Z71 (rear LSD and 33" tires) pick-up can attest to that. It was here were Peter discovered that his 4WD was not working right. I have not engaged my yet.
