J: John
*cheering* J: I don't think there's anybody in side, they're all out here to see you, Darren D: How you doin'? J: I'm doing great. How you doin'. D: Good, thanks for having me on the show. J: Thanks for coming on the show D: I've been listening for years so I'm pretty excited to be here. J: I was saying, you look so normal. You're wearing a white t-shirt and jeans (D: uh huh). You look like some American kid. D: I didn't really dress up, I know. Is that bad? I just figured it's the radio. J: No, it's great! It's not the phony glam stuff. You look totally real. D: Thanks man J: Well I want to congradulate you. Your song tonight in requests is far and away number 1. D: Well I love your show and the people who listen to it, so I thank you for requesting it. That's really cool. J: You have a huge fan base 'cause they send me e-mail all the time. D: Yeah J: When is this and then they're telling me they know all this stuff about you (note: I think, he kind of mumbled that) D: Yeah, they're pretty ferocious. I love them. J: So tell me what was the thing... SG went away and now you're on your own. D: Ya know what, we had an amazing run. We sold like 20 million records in 6 years, it was just 2 albums. We were young when we met... Sounds like a relationship doesn't it. J: It was D: But you know what, we grew up in the spotlight I guess and wanted different things. Daniel is amazingly talented but he wanted to produce records. He didn't want to do the public thing, didn't want to be a pop star. I can't stop singing. I am actually late to this show because I was in the shower just singing that Alanis song, badly, in the shower. J: *laughs* D: I mean that's what I love to do and I'm going to do it until I can't do it anymore. So.. J: Alanis' song is the most requested song by people just walking in this room tonight. D: That's cool J: "Hey, can't you play Alanis' song?" D: *laughs* J: So, Insatiable. How'd the song get written. D: Yeah, Insatiable is the first single from an album that comes out Monday actually. I think, in this country, called Spin. J: Actually, it's Tuesday... I think, I think D: Tuesday? J: Yeah, they handed me this thing here, it says "Spin is out on March 19" D: Man, I was going to go into the store on Monday and ask for a copy and I would have been very embarassed wouldn't I? It wouldn't have been there. J: It also says here that Savage Garden sold over 40 million albums worldwide D: It's actually 20, but I'll take 40 J: Is it 20? D: Yeah, it's 20 million j: Well, we like to exagerate here at OHP *laughs* J: So writing this song, where'd it come from? D: You know I wrote it with producer Walter A {AC note: not spelling that!!!}... J: Is that how you pronounce his name?! D: You know, we can call him Walter A. Michael Jackson apparently called him Master P so... that's a true story J: What did Mariah Carey call him? D: She called him Wally J: Yeah? D: Ricky Martin just finished working with him. He did that duet with Christina and Ricky and he worked on the Destiny's Child record. He's a great friend of mine. He's amazing talented. And we wrote half of my album together actually. J: Wow D: He and I. I think you guys have been playing this cool Metroboys {sp?} remix which I love, so.. J: Yeah, how'd that come to be? D: You know what, I'm a fan of them. And when we first did this song I felt that it had kind of a Latin vibe to it and I wanted it to sound very Miami, strangly enough. And here we are in Miami. But I wanted it to have that kind of late night feel and they do that so well. And they did this remix, it's actually my favorite version of this song. I wonder if I prefer it to my own. J: When we started playing that's when the requests went through the roof. D: That's great, that's really, really cool J: So it's sneaking up in the background on us right now as we sit here at the Billboard Live Club on Ocean Drive at Miami Beach *plays Insatiable* |
