Baranów Sandomierski

A Renaissance castle raised in the years 1591-1606 for the Leszczyński family, most probably according to Santi Gucci's design. Rectangular in plan, with an outer yard lifted to the first floor level and surrounded by an arcaded gallery in a horse-shoe shape, the castle is one of the most sumptuous residences of that time. At the turn of the 17th century its extension was arranged by Józef K. Lubomirski according to Tylman of Gameren's design: rich Baroque interior decorations were provided. Destroyed during World War II, the castle was restored in the years 1956-1968. Now it houses a museum and a hotel.
