Kwidzyn

A castle of the Pomeranian Chapter adjacent to the church and erected in the northern part of the town. The works were probably carried on during 1320-1350; the cathedral was added on the eastern side on the site of the former parish church in 1343-1355. A so-called dansker built in 1384 (public convenience and execution place) was connected with the castle from the west by means of the five-span gallery. The castle functioned as a prison in the years 1822-1834. Partly reconstructed in the second half of the 19th century, now it houses a museum.
