Originally a Gothic castle of Silesian Piasts, several times remodeled throughout the ages. Important reconstruction works which resulted in the present appearance of the residence were initiated by the Hochbergs and carried out in the eyars 1870-1874 according to a design by a well-known French architect Hipolit Destailleur. A majestic ducal residence with exquisite architectural forms, splendid interior decorations, and luxurious furnishings was created. A vast park (44 hectares) was established around the palace, one of the most beautiful parklands in Silesia The Pszczyna palace stayed in the hands of the Hochberg family until World War II. After 1945 a museum of interior decorations was installed in the palace, covering the period from the Renaissance till the 20th century. |
