In the mid 19th century this scenic place became the main seat of the well-known Great Poland family of the Raczyńskis. The palace was erected for Kazimierz Raczyński, the future Crown Marshal, in the years 1768-1773. The imposing building combines the elements of the late Baroque with those of early classicism. In the years 1909-1910 a special outbuilding was raised near the palace in order to house the collection of paintings gathered by Anastazy and Edward Raczyński; the rich collection contains European works of art and Polish paintings. The palace, remodeled in the 19th century, preserved a number of interesting period rooms which now host museum exhibits. It is surrounded by a large park with famous, several-hundred-year-old Rogalin oaks. |
