Rydzyna

An impressive Baroque castle complex raised in the late 17th century for Poznań Voivode Rafał Leszczyński, according to a design by Józef Bellotti. In about 1700 the works were taken over by Pompeo Ferrari. In the years 1744-1746 the residence was reshaped for Prince Aleksander Sułkowski under the guidance of Silesian architect Marcin Frantz. During that period of time the plafond of the ball-room was covered by Jerzy Neunhertz with a painting representing "Apotheosis of Sułkowski Family". In the inter-war period the palace sheltered a secondary school for boys. It was destroyed during World War II and reconstructed in 1972-1982 and now houses a hotel.
