This is the true story of some weird things that happened in my mother's house. When I was about seventeen, I had gone out with my best friend one weekend night in high school. She spent the night. I had a queen bed so she slept with me. I was on the left and she was on the right. In the middle of the night, I rolled over onto my left side. You know how sometimes when you shift in your sleep you open your eyes, but you're still between wake and sleep? Well, I opened my eyes just a little and saw the clear silhouette of a man in a dark suit and hat standing next to me bed. The hall light was on and my bedroom door was open, so there was no mistaking it. I shut my eyes tight. I thought I was going to have a stroke. My heart was pounding. I decided to rationalize. I told myself I had been dreaming and when I opened my eyes again, there would be nothing there. I peeked, and it was still there looking down at us. Now I really thought I was going to die. I felt paralyzed. I wanted to wake up my friend but I was too scared to move. I knew it was now or never. I tucked in my right arm and flung it at her, punching her square on the side. She woke up and asked what was wrong with me. All I could do was say over and over "Do you see it, do you see it?" I kept my eyes closed the whole time. She didn't know what I was talking about. I opened my eyes and saw nothing. I felt a little foolish and said I'd just had a bad dream. She wanted to know what it was,but I didn't want to tell her in case she decided to leave me there alone. I'm absolutely positive of what I saw.

On another occasion, I was lying in bed and just as I was drifting off to sleep, I heard this grunting noise almost like a pig coming from underneath my bedroom window. By the time I was fully awake, it would stop. This happened several times in a row. The last time I was fully awake and hearing it. I wanted to yell for my parents but could not get a sound to come from my throat. I don't know how, but I found the courage to go to the window and shut it. There are no pigs running around the Miami suburbs. Besides, this was a very sinister sound. It was as though it was toying with me trying to sleep. Also, I got really skittish about walking down the bedroom hall. I would run from one room to the other because I had the sense I was being chased. When my mother asked me what was wrong I was too embarrassed to explain, and would say I just felt like running. Not long after that, my family was having dinner, and the subject of strange sightings came up. Apparently, everybody had seen or heard one thing or the other, but nobody had talked about it.

Everyone had seen a little girl in the mirror in the living room either dancing or running. Well, I had heard quite enough. I made a formal declaration out loud that if I ever saw anything in the house, I would leave and never come back, and it would break my mother's heart. I never saw anything again.
