I was raised with a strong southern background in South Carolina. The small town we lived in is
one you would never hear of normally. The home my parents had was an old southern home my
parents got it at a very low cost. The house was nestled in the middle of hundreds of pecan Trees.
I remember as a kid going out and collecting pecans from under the trees. The house had three stories
with a basement. We never went down to the basement because it was not very tall plus spiders and
snakes loved it down their. We would always find things in the house that were left behind by the
previous owners. Such as old newspapers and such one afternoon my sister and I we where I guess
about 14 or so. We were in the main living room watching Tv. And talking which was not normal at
all. Most of the time we were fighting but this time we started acting like brother and sister. She was
A little older than I was.
The house always festinated us because of the age and the history that was behind it. I got up to walk into the kitchen to get something to drink. To get to the kitchen you had to walk through another room which my dad made into a library. As I was walking through the library I noticed movement from the corner of my eye. I looked over and saw a confederate solder standing up along the wall. Needless to say I froze in my steps. And attempted to focus my eyes better but by the time I did it was gone. I yelled for my sister she came running in and said what is wrong. I told her I just saw a guy wearing a confederate uniform standing up along the wall. I was pointing to the wall she looked at me and smacked me on the head and told Me I was loony. No I am not I saw it I told her. At that time I was very nervous I went back into the living room and did not go into the kitchen at all that day.
That Night I told my mom what I had seen she told me that it was just my Imagination not to worry about it. I kind of shrugged it off because I was a Civil-war buff. And enjoyed reading all about it and thought that perhaps that may have been the cause of me seeing what I did. So I did not give it any more thought from that point. The next afternoon I was out in the backyard working on a small mower a friend gave me I was pulling it apart to try and fix it. When I pulling something apart I always put the parts down in the order that I removed them. This way it is easier to put back together. I had the Head off of the mower and removed the piston and put it down on the table. Cleaned out the inside of the engine and started to put it back together. I reached over for a part looked at the table and half the parts were missing. I looked under the table around the table Nothing they were gone. Now I have heard of Crows stealing things and some times squirrels. But these things were too heavy for them to carry off. Besides Crows did
not hang around the house and the squirrels where too busy in the Pecan trees getting a free meal to
be concerned about what I was doing.
Well I figured it was time to go in that I could not do much until I found the parts. I went inside and washed up. I was upstairs in my room when I heard my Mom yell for me. I went down stairs and she
was holding the Head Gasket to the mower. She said to me what is this doing in the Fridge? I said what do you mean in the Fridge? She told me she found it on the shelve in the fridge. I told her I have been
looking for that it is a head Gasket for the mower I was working on. I put it on the table and turned around
to get it and it was gone I could not find it outside. She just looked at me as though she was trying to figure out if she could believe me or not. I was speechless I took the head gasket from her and put it outside with the other parts.
That night it was about 10pm my dad was on a business trip my mom had gone to bed and my sister was in the dinning room talking on the phone. I headed for the kitchen and had to go through the library to get their. As I entered the library I saw the solder again up along the wall this time I stopped did not say a
word just looked at him. It was strange I could not see him clearly it was as though he was standing in a fog. As I looked closer I could see another solder sitting on the floor leaning along the Wall. Now I was
about to freak out. And the smell of smoke filled the air kind of like a campfire or something like that.
I just slowly moved towards the kitchen as I moved the figures started to fade and then finally disappears.
As I turned I saw a man standing almost in the center of the Desk in the library he was wearing a white coat. I noticed it had red marks all over it or what appeared to be red marks like the others he was not clear
either. At that point my Sister came walking in saw me and stopped and started to say something when she
Just went quiet. I looked at her and could see her eyes as big as mine. I asked her softly do you see what I am looking at. She just nodded her head did not say a word. The figure that had the white coat on then started to move. He kind of glided I guess would be the best way to describe it. At that point another one Showed up it was a Lady all dressed up in the old southern clothing wearing a white apron and white cap. She walked over to the other man and they both just vanished.
My Sister was so scared she stopped breathing and fainted. I woke her up and took her into the living room and called for our mom. She came downstairs and saw Mandy laying on the couch and rushed over to her what is wrong. We told her what had happen she just looked at us both. She got a sorry look on her face and told us that the house has a lot of history behind it. The house was used during the civil-War as a field Hospital. But She told us she Had no Idea that we would have every seen any of this.
When My Dad came back off of his business trip. We had a family meeting in the meeting we talked about the experience we were having with the library. He had known about the past history of the house and figured it would not have posed a problem for us. So what we did next may shock some that are reading this. We took the Library and renovated it into a Civil-War Museum. It was nice all the history of the war That we could find displayed in the room. It was like a shrine for those that may have suffered in the house. And you know we have not seen another solder in the house.
The last I had heard about the house was 9 years ago the owners at that time changed the Library back to a den. Three months later the house burned to the ground. Go figure!
