During the years of the depression my great grandmother took in laundry from people to help make ends meet. My uncle was just a baby then so she left him upstairs in his crib while she went to the basement where the old wringer-washer was. She had just started a load of clothes in the machine when she got an uneasy feeling. Something told her to go up and check on the baby. When she got to the top of the steps, she felt a coldness coming from under the nursery door. My great grandmother threw open the door and saw a lady dressed in a grey flannel suit.(the kind they wore in the 1800's)The woman was leaning over the crib where my uncle was.She started to reach down to lift my uncle out of the crib. When she did, my great grandmother screamed and the woman vanished into thin air. My great grandmother scooped up my uncle and ran from the room. When my great grandfather got home from work my great grandmother told him what had happened. He scoffed at it saying she was just nervous cause the baby had had a fever and was just being over protective. Needless to say the baby slept in my great grandparents room from then on.Nothing else happened til about a month later when their neighbors has a new baby in the house next door. The baby was born kinda sickly and my great grandmother would go over to help the new mother care for the child. While she was there she saw the same lady wearing the grey flannel suit bending over the new baby's crib. My great grandmother yelled at the apparition and ran to the crib. The child was dead. Everyone said it died of crib death but my great grandmother always said that the woman in grey took that child to be her own.
