July 19-26 2000

i did not fit in the foot area

I liked flying despite the fact that I was kept in the overhead bin. (I did shift during the flight.)

 walking around Anchorage

On the first day we went for a walk around Anchorage.

It was very tiring.

That night we went to see my cousins (1st cousins, once removed we later learned).

berke & hope's knee

I had fun playing with Great Aunt Donna and cousin Hope.

half way up

The next day Mom and Dad went on a hike to Hope Point.

They didn't realize how difficult 3 miles each way with a 1 mile ascent would be.

at the top

The views, in between panting for breath going up and tripping going down, were awesome.

starting down

The hills are alive... (coming back down).

The next day we went on a cruise of the Kenai Fjords.

We saw a lot of animals and a big ol' glacier.

But, of course, I was the darling of the boat. I didn't care about the whales or ice. I preferred to chew on the seat and watch the people walk by.

humpback whale

Kim got some good action pictures of this humpback whale.

 berke and the glacier

We bundled up to see the glacier.

 mountains outside Seward

We checked out the scenery returning from Seward, including Exit Glacier.

This picture is from the road to that glacier.

 rainbow over Lake Eklutna

The next day we went to Eklutna, a little north.

It was raining on and off. This was bad because rain seemed to bring out the gargantuan mosquitoes. It was good, though, because the rain also brought out a beautiful rainbow.

aptly named Mirror Lake

We could see the rainbow a little better at nearby Mirror Lake.

a moose near Lake Eklutna

At about this time Kim declared that she was not pinning her hopes on seeing a moose.

Then we saw a moose.

peter and berke

Hanging out with cousin Peter on our last day of the trip.

a glacier from the sky

Mom and Dad took a flightseeing trip to see glaciers. Here is one of their views.
