THE SYMPTOMS OF CERVICAL CANCER

In early stages of cervical cancer (pre-cancer stage) abnormal cells can be found on the end of the cervix during a cervical smear test. Usually it did not cause pain and symptoms and it is also cannot be detected. Treating abnormal cells prevents cancer developing. If the abnormal cervical cells do develop into cancerous and invade nearby tissue, the tumor will grow in size, so it can produce a variety of symptoms including:

abnormal vaginal bleeding, such as bleeding may start and stop between regular menstrual periods, or it may occur after sexual intercourse, douching, or a pelvic exam. Menstrual bleeding may last longer and be heavier than usual.

vaginal bleeding after the menopause

foul smelling vaginal discharge

discomfort during intercourse

pelvic or back pain

pain on urination

blood in the stool or urine

These symptoms may be caused by cancer or by other health problems and many of these symptoms are non-specific. Only a doctor can tell for sure. It is important for a woman to see her doctor if she is having any of these symptoms.
