DISCUSSION

3D reconstruction of a shooting incident is invaluable tool for reconstruction of all dynamic situations were ballistic expert have to discriminate between competitive versions of a particular shooting case.

3D reconstruction of a shooting incident is not easy and is a time consuming job so it will only be applied if we have strong reasons for that. Nevertheless, number of those shooting cases requiring 3D reconstruction in 19 years of my practice as a Ballistic Expert Witness was big and that fact forced me to think this 3D way.

The first ballistic expert who used this approach was ALEXANDER JASON. He made the first ballistic computer simulation ever allowed in a murder trial in Mitchell brothers homicide case, Marin County, California in 1993.
There are several companies (mostly in USA) offering this service . On Zeno’s Forensic Site they have their links (http://forensic.to./forensic.html).

As a ballistic expert I stick to shooting cases but this 3D approach can be applied to other forensic fields as well (car accidents, arson, explosions,…)

My aim is to start that practice also in Forensic Institutes and to promote this idea of 3D reconstruction. I am searching for colleagues thinking similar and who want to join our efforts to develop this interesting technique.
