This tool steel is part of the Molybdenum High Speed Steels.

This material was produced as a substitute to AISI T1. The tungsten levels were lowered from 18 W to 1.50 W. Molybdenum was added to replace the tungsten. AISI M1 can be used in just about any situation that AISI T1 is used. The major difference is in the extra care that must be taken when hardening AISI M1
