General purpose austenitic stainless steel.
Heat Treatment - This material is not heat treatable for hardness purposes. To aquire different hardnesses, it must be cold worked. If the stainless has been cold drawn, the tensile strength can be increased up to 350,000 psi depending on the size and amount of cold reduction. After cold working, this material will become slightly magnetic. Hardness values for this material are not overly reliable. Thus they are only approximate.
Other - The AMS identifications 5516 and 5903 through 5906, corrosponds to this material's state. Where 5516 is annealed, 5903 is 1/4 hard, 5904 is 1/2 hard, etc.
This is a Austenitic stainless steel.
