8/4/04: Heat recovery central vent. There will be 1 hour time switches in the
bath rooms to activate high speed 150 cfm operation. The small amount of power to
operate the fan is much more than offset by the savings of tighter construction and
heat recovery from exhausted air.
Fan will be left on 'low' 60 cfm 24 hours spring thru fall for fresh air.
Advantages compared to bath fans
- Almost completely silent, even on high so more likely to be used than noisy
bath fans.
- Filtered intake air instead of unfiltered random air leaks or open windows.
- Ensured fresh air to all rooms thru heat system vents.
A leaky house requires 25mph winds for sufficient fresh air.
- Heat recovered from outgoing air for energy savings.
Disadvantages
- Higher initial cost
- More ductwork required
