8/06: This unit extracts heat from the room air and provides excellent dehumidification as a byproduct. Using approximately the same energy as a dehumidifier and using similar components, its like getting free hot water from spring thru fall! 2.7 times more efficient than the electric resistance elements so its about 1/2 the cost to operate of a gas water heater, even less when dehumidification is required. In the winter its more efficient to use the geothermal system to make hot water since cooling the basement would make the geothermal system run longer - a double conversion. The connections are on the right hand side and include water in and out and electrical connection to the water heater. There is a small circulating pump inside which takes water from the tank drain and returns it to the cold water inlet.
