The Lectric Leopard is engineered to give economical, trouble free service over many years if operated cautiously and in the recommended manner. Remember, electric vehicles do have limitations and must not be considered as direct replacements for higher horsepower gasoline-driven autos. Electric vehicle speeds are lower, hill climbing must be done more slowly, and acceleration is not as brisk. However, when used within its capacity, on short run commuting and local delivery or errand service, the Lectric Leopard can be enjoyed for its economy and absence of noise and air pollution.
Electric vehicles are synonomous with "Silent Transportation". U.S. ELECTRICAR CORPORATION asks that all drivers be alert to the visually impaired, the aurally impaired and others who may rely on the noise produced by conventional gasoline-driven auto.
AMMETER: This meter indicates current going from the batteries to the motor.
DO NOT operate the vehicle in such a way that the needle remains in the red
portion for more than thirty seconds at a time.
VOLTMETER: This is a combination Voltmeter and Fuel Gauge. This meter
indicates the voltage at the motor. When driving on level road with the
speed control pedal fully depressed and the AMMETER reading between 150 and
200, your Voltmeter can be used to estimate the amount of energy or fuel
remaining in the batteries. The closer the needle is to the red area the
less the energy reserve. When the needle has reached the RED ZONE, only 2 or
3 miles may be driven safely. NOTE: DRIVING WITH THE VOLTMETER INDICATOR IN
THE RED ZONE WILL VOID YOUR BATTERY WARRANTY.
NOTE: OVERCHARGING YOUR BATTERIES WILL VOID BATTERY WARRANTY.
Under normal driving and charging conditions, electrolyte levels need only be checked and distilled water added every one thousand miles. Electrolyte levels should always be above the battery plates but should not extend into the neck of the filler holes, as it may spatter during charging. Add only DISTILLED WATER to both the motive and accessory batteries.
NOTE: DO NOT OVERCHARGE. IF YOU ARE ADDING ONE OR MORE QUARTS OF DISTILLED
WATER EVERY 500 MILES, THERE IS CAUSE FOR CONCERN REGARDING OVERCHARGING OF
YOUR BATTERIES.
The batteries must-be "cycled" several times before optimum mileage is realized. Usually the car must be driven 400 to 500 miles before the battery plates have become "hard" enough to deliver power for a range in excess of 50 miles on level terrain.
The heater operates from the main batteries and of course will decrease the range of the vehicle when operated continuously. Preheating the car by turning on the battery charger and operating the heater with the household electric current for ten or fifteen minutes before using the vehicle, will add to your driving comfort without sacrificing range. The heater switch is located on the face of the heater enclosure and is turned "ON" by placing it in the "UP" position.
The 906-004 fuse is located on the master contactor in the front under-hood
battery compartment. It is designed to blow under excessive load conditions
thereby protecting cables and other electrical components. Excessive load
conditions are created when the vehicle is driven improperly. Should you
repeatedly blow this fuse, please contact your Lectric Leopard agent where
the vehicle was purchased.
To replace the fuse, take the following steps:
The performance of the Lectric Leopard is greatly affected by the temperature of the batteries. Greatest driving range is available when the battery temperature is 80 F degrees or more. At 0 F degrees the amount of energy available is barely half that at 80 F degrees and the range is reduced correspondingly. However, since heat is generated in the batteries during the charging cycle, this drawback can.be overcome on many occasions. By planning ahead, the charge cycle can be arranged, in the cold weather, to shut off shortly before the vehicle is to be used and little decrease and little decrease in performance will be experienced.
If it becomes necessary to tow the vehicle with a tow truck or a conventional towing service, THE CAR MUST BE TOWED FROM THE REAR. FAILURE TO DO SO WILL VOID THE WARRANTY ON THE AXLES. The vehicle may be towed short distances, using a tow bar attached to the two front tie downs. Be certain the gear shift lever is in NEUTRAL and the Parking BRAKE OFF. Place key in the LOCK and key to the OFF position, leaving key in place. This will unlock the steering wheel.

When towing the vehicle for distances greater than 100 miles it is necessary to perform the following:
All 952 model Lectric Leopard's have standard non-assisted front disc and rear drum disc brakes.
All 953 model Lectric Leopard's have vacuum assisted brakes. Since there is no natural vacuum generated in an electric vehicle, a vacuum pump is installed in the front:engine bay. This vacuum assist operates when depressing the brakes (key on). A slight drumming sound emanating from the front of the car may be detected when working the brakes. This is the pump.
The Lectric Leopard is warranted to the original consumer to be free from defects in manufacture and/or assembly by U. S. ELECTRICAR CORPORATION, Athol, Massachusetts, for.a period of one year from delivery or 12,000 miles, whichever event occurs first. (This warranty does not apply to batteries)
If the vehicle becomes defective under normal use and service, U. S. ELECTRICAR CORPORATION's obligation will be limited to having an authorized Lectric Leopard Dealer repair or replace any part found defective, at the Dealer.'s place of business, within a reasonable time after the delivery of the vehicle to the Dealer. This warranty gives specific legal rights and the owner may also have other legal rights which vary from state to state.
No other warranty, express or implied, is given or authorized by U. S. ELECTRICAR CORPORATION.
