8/11/03: 27 cubic yards. The concrete contractors 23 years of experience was obvious when
there was perhaps 4 or 5 shovel fulls of concrete extra at the end after 3 trucks cleaned out.
He was able to create an almost perfectly level foundation out of an inherently messy medium.
Just after this picture was taken the chute on the concrete truck swung a little too far and
completely covered the top of the red ladder and the board he was standing on with concrete.
The black mark on the concrete to the right and down from the worker on the right is watery
concrete coming out from a tiny crack between the forms. It easily flowed over there from the
location where it was being poured on the left. The concrete plant is just a few miles away in
Raymond so this type of foundation should have one of the lowest forms of 'embodied' energy and
is probably the only practical type due to the strength required for the hillside.
