X-wing Helmet

Rough trimmed parts for helmet

Vacuum formed helmet parts. The three larger parts are pulled from 1/8" styrene. The fore head notch and chin cup are pulled from 9/32". All parts have accurate trim lines marked in the pull.

Partially assembled helmet

The left and right half connected together using the center strip. The helmet insert is also in place on this helmet, this is not normally done for the kit, but can be done so on request. For those that want uber accurate, this assembly could be cut down and mounted on a real flight helmet shell.

Lens
This is the lens, The edges have been cleaned up on this part, and it is ready to dye. I use Rit dye powder, 1/2 pack yellow, and 1/2 pack orange. Use a pot big enough to completely submerge the lens in water. Add dye to water, and bring to a boil. Submerge lens in water just a few seconds and you're done!

Completed helmet
This is a custom paint scheme I recently did. The design is inspired by the character Tyco from the Rouge Squadron series. Most of this was done with spay paints. I used blue tape to mask off.  The helmet was also painted black inside before adding the edge trim.
The flaming cog started as laser cut decal, with the flames added by brush. The kill markings are paper marker dots with 1/8" liner tape. The DS kill marking is a spray painted marker dot. I used ground up pencil lead to do my fine carbon scoring. It sticks very well to the raw styrene.I'll add more darker streaks later.
