• Occupation: Escaped pet.
• Former Occupations: Lab rat in top secret psi-powers experiment lab run by Terran Intelligence.
• Residence: Currently homeless.
• Laran gift and laran training: Weak telekinesis (will ring bells for food). No telepathy. Capable of building strong barriers against telepaths, including humans with the MacAran Gift.
• Politics: Wants to be supreme ruler of the universe.
• Personality: Arrogant, egotistical, and rude. Fortunately, he is incapable of communicating directly with most humans, so they don't know just how unpleasant he can be.
• Strengths: Extremely intelligent.
• Weaknesses: Few practical skills except for running through mazes. Power-hungry. And he's a rat.
• Combat training:
  Unarmed: Bites.
  Armed: Can cause unstable objects to fall over on top of enemies.
• Horseback riding: Umm, right.
• Appearance: 40 cm long with a long, scaly tail, white fur, and beady eyes.
• Romantic relationships:
• Human friends & acquaintances: Algernon has no friends, only potential minions. Was once the pet of Gavin MacDonnell. Is currently using Jana McCarroll as a stepping stool to power, or at least to a better view of the world.
• Hobbies: Reading political philosophy, plotting world domination.
• Other Information: Was "freed" from the Terran Intelligence lab where he worked by Gavin MacDonnell's ex-girlfriend Viviane, a Vainwali animal-rights activist and small-time terrorist, who destroyed the lab and freed the experimental animals. Viviane brought Algernon to Darkover and left him with Gavin. Algernon escaped after Gavin's clinic was destroyed during the mysterious fires in Thendara.
