Xena: Warrior Princess.. In my opinion is one of, if not the best thing on TV today. A combination of drama, comedy and pure outrageousness makes this show special. Until Xena came on in 1995, the last time there was a hot chick kickin' ass was Wonder Woman back in the 70's. Lucy Lawless plays Xena, and is an absolutely gorgeous and talented woman. She is joined by the equally gorgeous and superb Renee O'Connor. I am still amazed by this show. Now in it's 5th season Xena has given birth to a baby and Xena and Gabby (her lesbian lover?) have been fighting the good fight. Battle On Xena! |

I've never been a big fan of the Brittney Spears, Backstreet Boys, N'Sync teeny bopper music (Although, Justin Timberlake is pretty cute ;). I prefer my music to actually be MEANINGFUL. A couple of AWESOME songs/bands are:
-REM, who's song "Losing My Religion" has been in my Top 10 since I heard it back when I was 14 or 15.
-Ben Folds Five, the first song of their's that I heard was "Brick". This song is one of the most painful songs I have ever heard. It's a song about abortion, and the repercussions of it. I'm Pro-Choice, but this song is none the less a VERY powerful song.
-Bush is another band that I really like. Their latest single "Letting the Cables Sleep" is a slow melodic song. It's a truly beautiful song which I haven't been able to get out of my head for almost a week now.
-Madonna, who doesn't love her? "Take A Bow" is a very sad song. I've always associated this particular song to the people I've known over the years who have committed suicide.
-An amazing band from Canada, The Matthew Good Band has recently become my favorite band. Their deeply meaningful and intelligently written songs are completely engrossing. Songs like "Hello Time Bomb" and "Load Me Up" are really great songs to listen to. They sound really nice, but if you ACTUALLY pay attention to the lyrics, they're saying something too. |

My favorite moves tend to be either highly interpretive, or really dramatic. I'm not really a fan of the comedies, because I don't really find them all that funny, or even remotly intelligent. If anyone knows a good comedy, let me know, because I'd love to find a good comedy.
Anyway, lately I've been seeing a lot of Edward Norton's work. I think he's a brilliantly talented actor, perhaps the best actor in Hollywood right now. His work in American History X is what first got my attention, and then when I saw Fight Club, I was completely blown away. The versatility he has shown, and the really wonderful performances that he has given make him my current favorite actor. Fight Club and American History X are in my top 10 movies.
Another amazing movie The Ice Storm. Until I saw this particular movie I had never seen Sigorney Weaver in a role other than Ripley (from the Alien movies), and was really amazed that she could actually act. Not only was she great in this movie, but the actors Christina Ricci and Elija Wood gave amazing performances as well. Kevin Kline was also in this movie and like the others was really great. A really sad movie, but it's got some really funny bits in it too. It's a dark movie like Fargo, and I really enjoyed it and highly reccomend it as well.
I also like David Cronenberg's EXISTENZ. It's a wierd movie, but Jennifer Jason Leigh and Jude Law are really good actors and pull off a really strange movie. |
