Directions to Merion Friends Meeting
From Schuylkill Expressway: take City Line Ave. (Rt. 1) south. Turn
right onto Conshochocken State Rd. (Rt. 23). In 4 - 5 blocks, follow the
road as it turns left and stay straight on Montgomery Ave. Do not turn
right following Rt. 23. Pass through shop-ping district; pass McAuley
Convent. Merion Friends Meeting is across from the Exxon station and
before the General Wayne Inn.
From Rt. 1 south: Pass Lancaster Ave. (Rt. 30) and St. Joseph's College.
At 54th St. on the right, turn left onto Old Lancaster Avenue.
(Corner has Popeye's and Bruce's Apppliances). At 2nd light, turn
left onto Montgomery Ave. Pass McAuley Convent. Merion Friends
Meeting is across from Exxon Station and before the General Wayne Inn.
From the Blue Route (Rt. 476). Exit #5 (Villanova, St. Davids) at
Lancaster Pike (Rt. 30) and go East on Lancaster Pike. Pass
Villanova University and Bryn Mawr. Turn left at Woodside Ave and
right on Montgomery Avenue. Pass Ardmore's Suburban Square, Lower
Merion High School (on left).
After approx. 5 miles from Rt. 476, Merion Friends

Joe
Kaloyanides Graziosi was raised in the Boston's Greek community. His maternal
grandparents were from the region of East Thrace. Joel travels regularly to
Greece conducting dance research in many of the villages. He also collects
material in the Greek American communities. He is a regular contributor to
various programs of the New York's Ethnic Arts Center. He has conducted
workshops throughout the U.S.A. and is a frequent staff-member of the Balkan
Music and Dance Workshop in California. He is the co-founder and co-director of
the World Camp, near Cape-Cod

Instructor: Paula Davis-Larson is Assistant Professor of Costume Design and
History in the Department of Theatre and Dance at Bucknell University, in
Lewisburg, PA. Paula will teach material she learned in Europe from
professional folk dance choreographers there, for the past three summers.
These are dances that, while there are versions of or similar dances being
done in this country, are unique choreographies in their own right. She
plans to focus on dances of Macedonia and Romania. Her material from
Macedonia was learned from Ljubco Manevski, a choreographer for the famous
Tanec ensemble. Paula also studied Romanian dance with Toma Francescu,
the
artistic director of the Timisul Ensemble of Timisoara, Romania. Paula
was
introduced to folk dance nearly 30 years ago through involvement in the
ethnic communities of Los Angeles.

Tour of Romania
June 20 -
June 30, 2003 Theodor Vasilescu's Folklore and Dance Tour of Romania
The tour will include 11 days of visits to local villages and folk
dancers, ethnographic museums, dance performances, castles, folk
restaurants, dance instruction and lots of sightseeing, arranged with
the assistance of Marin Barbu. The tour will consist of a clockwise loop
from Bucharest, west thru Muntenia and Oltenia, north across the Southern
Carpathian Mountains into Transylvania, east into the Middle Carpathian
Mountains and returning south to Bucharest. Theodor Vasilescu will
personally be giving dance instruction, and during the tour of
Bucharest, participants will visit Theodor and Lia's family home.
The price for all land activities and arrangements within Romania,
including all meals, travel, hotel rooms, etc. will depend on the final
number of tour participants. If there are 20 people, the price will be
US$1150 per person. With 30, it will be US$1050, and with 40, US $950.
For air travel, a group rate from Newark and/or JFK is being worked
out, leaving via Lufthansa on the evening of Thursday, June 19th, 2003,
for Frankfurt, Germany. A connecting flight will then take us to
Bucharest on the afternoon of Friday, June 20th. The return is
scheduled for July 1 or 2.
