Oh, the simplicity from which greatness is born. This story has a small beginning. Last week, I ran out of Dr. Pepper, my beverage of choice. Since I didn't have the spare scratch to buy more, I came up with an alternative. In the short time I lived in the south I had developed quite a liking for sweet tea, so I grabbed a few empty two liters and went to the hall kitchen to make some. Since I had the resources of the entire hall at my disposal, and didn't have to worry about my mom yelling at me for wasting stuff, I went hogwild with the ingredients. We're talking something close to POUNDS of sugar. And other secret ingredients (like tea), including apple juice. Well, I mixed all of this and put it in my bottles. Skip forward to tonight. After much intense video-gaming I had quite a thirst, so I went to break out the bottle of tea I had placed in a friend's fridge. I thought it was funny when there was a hiss of compressed air released on opening, but I did a double take when I tasted it. APPARENTLY, when you mix fruit juice and lots of sugar in an enclosed space, and let it set, it ferments. I had always been under the impression that this was a process taking monthes, if not years. Not so. In my hands, I held a cup of tea that, after four days, tasted just like communion wine! Now, I've always been partial to the taste of communion wine, but was turned of by the taste of regular wines, they just aren't the same. Well, I need search no longer. I now have the means to make my own moonshine. And I'm considering marketing. Perhaps "Matt's Generic Sweet Tea Hooch," or more simply, "STooch." Maybe not, it just doesn't have that oomph. You think about it, let me know. Maybe I'll give you a partnership. Until then, CHEERS!! |
