Nascar, probably my favorite
sport, definitely the one I follow the most anyways. I started
watching Nascar way back around the year 1998. That year I cheered for
the #97 car driven by Chad Little and sponsored by John Deere. In 1998
he started driving full-time for Roush Racing in that car, although he had
been in and out of Nascar, this was the first year he ran the whole year.
Things went well and he almost won in his 5th start of the year at Texas,
settling instead for 2nd place. That was the story of Chad's career I
think, close but never close enough. He went on to finish 15th in the
standings with 7 top-10's.

In 1999 a new face showed up in
the Nascar garage, it was Tony Stewart. He won the pole for the
Daytona 500 and ran well all year. I began to cheer for him and Chad,
I liked both their driving styles. Tony went on to finish 4th in
standings and Chad finished somewhere around 20th. Rumors began to
surface about Chad being on his way out of the #97, I hoped for the best.
In 2000 things started poorly for Chad and well for Tony. Tony
performed well all year, and Chad lost his ride with 7 races to go in the
year to the most hated man in Nascar, Kurt Busch. Kurt disgraced the
#97 for 7 races until John Deere left as the sponsor. A wise move, for
Kurt is a big prick is probably the biggest baby in Nascar and it would have
made Deere look bad.
I had to find someone to cheer for now that Chad was gone, I
turned to a man named Robby Gordon. A newcomer to the sport, Robby
started the year in the #4 Kodak Chevy. He was let go after a few
sub-par races, it wasn't his fault though, the #4 was in turmoil during the
time and still is when I write this 3 years later. He eventually
landed a ride in Richard Childress' #31 Chevy, you may know him as the owner
of the team that the late Dale Earnhardt drove for.
Well, in 2001 Tony won the Cup Championship and Robby won his
first race at Loudon. In 2002 Tony struggled to repeat his feats of
the previous year, but still managed to finish in the top-10 of the
standings. Robby won two races that year, sweeping both road course
events and finishing 16th in the standings after a string of bad luck, he
was in 9th place for awhile.
Now it is 2004, we shall see what the future holds for
Nascar....
