The Liberal Party of Australia: This party is presently in government at a federal level, however not in any of Australia's states or territories. Society has generally held the belief that in terms of the economy & our defence (federal issues) the Liberal Party is more suited to government, however the perception of its performance in relation to schools and health (state issues) is just the opposite (incorrectly so, in my opinion). The Liberal Party varies from state to state, however it is generally more conservative on social issues than perhaps it should be.

Australian Democrats: This party's purpose, to "keep the bastards honest", was a wonderful opportunity for centre-politics, but that's all over now. This party's recent history (ie none of their sitting Senators being returned in the 2004 federal election) is testament to how only the major parties can forge a longterm influence over the Australian political landscape. They only have themselves to blame.

Liberal Democratic Party (LDP): This party appears to be fully libertarian. The LDP presently holds no seats, and they'd probably be better off in a major player (such as the Liberals) in order to tip the policy balance in their favour, and achieving more of their goals in the process. Otherwise, on their own, they'll never get into parliament and influence policy.

Liberals for Forests: Much better than the Greens. Having said that, they often pretend to be actual Liberals, lowering the Lib primary vote in a deceitful manner as a result.

Liberals for Forests

Australian Men's Party: This party is attempting to address the sometimes perceived imbalance in society towards women in certain fields, and is fighting for "true equality". Single issue, and unlikely to progress anywhere.

Australian Men's Party

Outdoor Recreation Party: Grubby single issue party that serves only to get elected via dodgy preference deals.

Outdoor Recreation Party

Help End Marijuana Prohibition (HEMP SA): I am not from South Australia, but I have to give credit where it is due - it is a clever name. Single issue party.

HEMP SA

Shooters Party: Beleives that people should have better access to guns. Even though many "centrist" voters are against guns, the right to a gun is fundamental to protection from overbearing or oppressive government. The fact Australia has been lucky in never having an oppressive government, makes gun ownership a social and political taboo in most communities. Single issue party.

Shooters Party

Australian Reform Party: Victorian party that is against big government and pro private enterprise. Difficult to know what made this party want to exist considering the economic policies of both major parties.
