Chapter 2

The next day when Matt and Stephanie were in make-up, Stephanie didn’t even look at Matt. When they were done they both headed to the set. “Stephanie, wait.” Matt yelled after Stephanie. She kept walking. “If you would listen, I can tell you the deal.” Matt told her. “Ok...what is it?” she turned to face him. “See Mandy wa...” Matt started. “Ok everyone on set!” the director yelled. “Later ok?” Stephanie said to him. “Ok.” he replied.

Katie and Jim walked up to the table where Jim’s girlfriend was. “Be nice to her.” Jim commanded. “I will.” she sighed as they got to the table. “Hi!” Jim said giving Diane a kiss, “Hey! This must be Katie.” “Yeah! Where’s your son?” Jim asked. “He’ll be back, he’s in the restroom.” she replied. Katie sat down, though she didn’t want to. Diane and Jim were talking when her son came up. “Oh Danny, this is Jim and his...well, this is Katie.” Diane said as Danny approached. When Katie heard the name Danny she turned. “Danny!” Katie yelled. “Katie!” he said back as he sat down beside her. They started talking a mile a minute to each other. “Do you guys know each other?” Jim asked. “Yeah!! We’re like best friends!!” Katie said. “Yeah!” Danny added. “Great!! We’re glad you guys like each other because...well...” Diane started. “We’re getting married!” Jim said as Diane showed them the ring. They both looked at it in shock; then at each other. Katie got up and ran out crying. “Oh god! I told her to be nice! Sorry Diane, this was supposed to be a special night for us! The little brat ruined it, I’ll teach her a lesson!” Jim said getting up. “No it’s ok!” Diane stopped him. Danny had been glaring at Jim since he called Katie a brat. “We’ll just let it go.” Diane looked at Danny, “Danny what’s wrong?” He slammed his hands on the table as he got up and went after Katie. Everyone in the restaurant was staring at them.

“KATIE!” Danny yelled when he found her sitting on the curb, “Kates what’s wrong?” he asked sitting beside her, “Besides the fact Jim is a real ass.” She laughed a little when he said that, “Nothing.” “If it is about the marriage thing, I don’t want it either, but at least we get to hang more. Well we’ll sort of be related but...” “It’s not that.” she interrupted. “Then what’s up?” he asked. “See I like the idea of us kinda being related,” ‘except we can‘t get together like I hoped‘ she thought to herself,” but I just don’t want Jim to be in your life. You don’t know how he is, he’s...” “He’s what?” he nudged her for the rest. “Nothing, I’m hungry, let’s go eat, and try to act happy.” Katie said changing the subject. Danny new she’d tell him sooner or later so he just let it go, “Ok, come on.” he helped her up and they went in and apologized.

“Cut! Great job guys!! Let’s break for lunch!” the director said. Stephanie turned quickly and started to the cafeteria. “Stephanie we’re gonna talk!” Matt followed after her. “I know, and I’m listening.” she said as they went into the cafeteria. As they were getting their food Matt explained to her what happened. They sat down, “Oh. So I guess I kinda over reacted huh?” she told him. “No, I understand what you were thinking. And I also wanna thank you because Mandy wasn’t right for me at all.” he smiled at her. She smiled back. “It was your friend ship that made me realize it!” he said finishing his lunch. “Oh.” she said a little disappointed. “Yeah. You one of the greatest friends I’ve ever made on set!” he finished. “Cool.” she smiled a little. “Yeah but I need to go study the new lines the director gave me. I’ll see you on set.” he said and he kissed her cheek then left. Stephanie sat there pushing her food around with her fork, smiling and thinking; she was really happy she and Matt were friends, but still bummed because she didn’t think he wanted to be anything more.
