Chapter 5

Gray had been thinking and had decided to give everyone a few weeks off. He told them and everyone went home.

The few weeks passed quickly. Matt and Stephanie had hung out almost the whole vacation. They day they were coming back to work just happened to be Steph and Matt’s one month anniversary. Steph got Matt a little something, a card and a chain. She couldn’t wait to get to the set to give it to him.

Matt was at the set talking to his cousin, Cindy. “Matt where is this girl you’ve been talking about?” she asked him. At this time Stephanie walked in, they didn’t see her but she saw Matt talking to a girl. She totally trusted Matt, but she slowed her pace and see what was gonna happen. “She’ll be her soon, but look what I got her for our one month anniversary.” he said showing her the silver ring he got her, “Think she’ll like it?” “Matt she’ll love it!” Cindy said, “You are such a great guy!” she said hugging him. ’Did he just give that girl a ring?’ she thought as she approached them. “Oh Steph.” Matt said grabbing the ring and hiding it, he didn’t want her to see it yet. “Hey, what was that about?” she asked. “Oh nothing.” Matt said. “No offence, but it looked like something. Like you were giving her a ring.” she said. “No I wasn’t...I...” he started, “No Matt, I don’t wanna hear your excuses, I thought we were gonna go far, but, but never mind...” she said as she stormed off to her dressing room.

“I...I...she...” Matt stuttered. “She’s nice.” Cindy said. “Yes, but she, she didn’t let me explain! Ugh, you know what, I...I can’t deal with this right now!” Matt yelled and stormed off to his dressing room. “Well, that went...ok...” Cindy said to herself.

“Ugh!” Stephanie said ripping up the card she had for Matt, “The nerve of him! He was with another girl this whole time! Ugh! Guys.”

“I can’t believe she thought I was with another girl!” Matt said to himself, “I thought she knew she was the only one for me. Well...great way to spend our anniversary, breaking up! Ugh, girls!”

Stephanie heard a knock on her door. “Go away.” she yelled. “Hey, it’s Cindy.” Cindy said. “Who?” Stephanie said getting up and opened the door. She opened it up and saw the girl Matt ‘gave the ring to’. “Oh you.” she said and started to close it back, but Cindy stopped it. “Ok I’m just gonna say one thing, you should talk to Matt. That’s it, think about it.” Cindy said and left. “What does she know?” Stephanie said to herself as she shut the door.

“Matt!” Cindy said knocking on his door. The door opened, “What?” Matt stuck his head out. “Just go talk to her ok.” she said. “I don’t want to talk to her, if she can’t trust me, then I can’t be with her.” he said and shut the door. “Gosh.” Cindy said as she left.

“Ok everyone on set!” Gary yelled. Stephanie came out of her dressing room, just as Matt came out of his. They looked at each other, and then at the floor. They forgot about what had happened so they could do their job.

“That’s sweet Danny.” Katie said after the kiss. “Come on, we gotta walk.” he took her hand and they started toward the Ohio state police station. They walked for about an hour and a half, and had only gone about five miles. “Man Danny, I’m so tired, why couldn’t we have taken the four wheeler?” Katie asked as she plopped down on the ground and leaned against a tree. “Because we don’t have enough money for gas, and they could track us down with the license plate.” Danny replied as he sat next to her, “But we can try and hitch a ride.” “Hitch hike? Are you crazy, no way I’m doing that, there are crazy people out there, no.” Katie declared. “Come on Kates, we can like go with a woman, they’re not that crazy, and plus, ya got me to protect you.” Danny smiled and put his hand on her cheek. She smiled, then sighed, “I guess, I don’t think I can walk another step.” she said getting up. “Get your thumb ready.” Danny laughed as he followed her.

“Oh Jim, I’m so scared. They weren’t here when I got home.” Diane said to Jim. The police were at the house, and were about to start a search. “It’s ok Diane, they’ll be ok.” he said hugging her. “Ma’am, we’ll find your kids, some of our officers found an abandoned four wheeler just south of here.” an officer told them. “That’s Danny’s!” she exclaimed. “We’ll keep looking, they couldn’t of gone far from it.” the officer finished. “I’ll help, I’m going to look for them too.” Jim told them. “That’s good sir, you know them and know where they might go.” the officer said and left. ‘They’re going to the police, and probably the biggest police station in Ohio.’ he thought to himself, ‘I swear I’ll kill those brats.’ “Bye honey.” Jim kissed Diane and left.

“Hey, hey!! We need a ride!!” Danny yelled, waving his arms to a passing car, but it whizzed by, “Damn it!” “Dan, face it, no one is gonna pick us up. We’re just gonna have to walk.” Katie said. They linked arms and started walking down the road. After about five minutes a car slowed down be hind them and stopped. “Oh kind person!” Katie yelled as she and Danny ran to the car. They went to the passenger’s window and it rolled down. They stood in shock when they saw who it was, “You kids need a ride?” Jim asked, acting like he was nice. They stared at him for a moment when he glared at them and yelled, “Get in the car!” They were so scared, they got in the back and sat quietly as Jim drove off.

“Cut.” Gary said, “Ok guys, great job, break for lunch. Matt, Stephanie, over here.” they both walked over to him, “You guys work so well together, there’s just so much...what is it?” “Chemistry?” they said in unison. “That’s it! Just wanted to say you guys are great. Have a good lunch.” he told them and walked off. The two just looked at each other in silence. Finally Matt broke it with a little attitude, “Well not much chemistry, if you can’t trust me!” he said and walked off. Stephanie watched him then called to him, “Matt, wait.” she sighed. He stopped, and turned, “What?” She walked over to him, “I’m sorry, I need to learn to listen to you if we’re going to have a relationship, and I trust you, I just...” “Yeah. But can you let me explain now?” he asked. She nodded and they sat down and talked. “She’s my cousin, and I was just showing her the ring I got you for our anniversary.” he explained to her. “Ugh, I hate myself. I shouldn’t jump to conclusions.” she said. Matt laughed, “Yeah, but I can see where you got the wrong impression.” She laughed along with him. “So, are we making up?” he looked at her. “I hope, because it is, after all, our anniversary.” she smiled and Matt leaned in and kissed her. “Here.” he said giving her the ring, he took it out and put it on her ring finger, “It’s a promise ring.” he smiled. “Awe, Matt.” she sighed, “Thanks.” He hugged her. “Um, I got you something too.” she said pulling him to her dressing room. She gave him the chain, “I had a card for you, but I kinda ripped it up when the whole...you know.” “Awe. It’s ok. Thanks!” he laughed and Steph joined in as they walked to lunch hand in hand.
