“Are you sure this is it? This place is not well-lit at all.” Jesse said as Matt pushed open the tall, wooden door to 24 Broadway Street.
“What were you expecting, a tanning booth?” Matt laughed.
The two blonde boys stepped inside the dark building, unsure of what was going to happen. The front door slammed behind them. Matt seized this opportunity to ask Jesse why he was searching for this building in the first place.
“I got this note in the mail,” Jesse started as he held the piece of paper, “that said to come here. Creeped out, I showed it to my parents, who read it and were so excited. They were grinning and dancing around the house. They said it would change me.”
Matt responded, “Yeah, my mom was really happy when I got a note similar to yours in the mail too. Can I see your note for a second?”
Jesse handed the paper over to Matt, who compared both notes.
Both were exactly the same, and read:
“The notes are exactly the same.” Matt concluded as he handed Jesse back his letter.
“Whoa, I don’t think I can handle all this weirdness in one day,” Jesse answered, “I don’t get why our parents would be so happy about some psycho mailing disturbing letters to us.”
“I do.” A masculine voice replied.
Jesse and Matt tried to see figure that possessed the voice, but their attempt was unsuccessful.
“Are you Jesse McCartney and Matt O’Leary?” The voice questioned.
“Uh…yeah…” Jesse said trembling.
“Follow me.” The voice said, and drifted to another part of the building.
“It’s slightly difficult to follow you when I CAN’T EVEN SEE MY HAND IN FRONT OF MY FREAKIN’ FACE!!” Matt yelled angrily.
“YEAH!” Jesse added, “WHAT HE SAID!”.
“Then follow the trail of blue lights to the metal door.” The voice answered.
“What lights?” Jesse inquired, just as a string of tiny, bright blue lights lit up and led to a door across the room.
“Never mind,” Jesse said aloud and snickered nervously.
Matt and Jesse followed the lights to the intimidating metal door and waited for more directions from the unknown voice.
“Now what?” Matt questioned impatiently.
“Please place your right hand on the scanner. We must identify you.” The voice boomed.
Instantaneously, two small sections of the wall on opposite sides of the door, slid down, revealing a neon-green glowing box inside the wall. Matt and Jesse peered at one another before placing their hands atop the box. A laser scanned their hands, and a computerized voice belted, “Identification cleared. Please remove your hand from the machine immediately.” Jesse and Matt hastily removed their hands, just in time before the sections of the wall slid up, leaving no traces of the glowing box behind.
The computerized voice then spoke again, “You may now enter WGG Headquarters.”
The metal door steadily opened, flooding the room with light and exposing a long hallway. Matt and Jesse entered the hallway and the door shut automatically behind them. There was another door at the end of the walkway, so they figured that must be where they were going. Reaching the door, Jesse leisurely twisted the doorknob, quivering with anxiety…
