                              a Mr. Thompson in a pork packing business on York 
                              St. The By-Ward stores were managed by William and

                              listed as proprietors of the Wellington Ward stores, 
                              and also a new shop at 161 Bank St. (3). Also in 
                              1891, Michael died. | 
                           
                            | 1892 | William died, leaving 
                              Bernard as sole manager of the Slattery interests

                            | 1895 | By 1895, Bernard had 
                              sold his interest in Thompson & Slattery and 
                              had entered a partnership with John Terrence. A 
                              further expansion at the By-Ward Market added Stall 
                              B, east side, old Market Building. | 
                           
                            | 1900 | Two of Bernard's sons, 
                              William and Jack were now employed, William in 1898, 
                              and Jack in 1900. Bernard opened shops in new locations, 
                              starting 1899. During the succeeding years he became 
                              the largest retail butcher in Ontario. | 
                           
                            | 1903 | About 1903, the Slattery 
                              & Terrence partnership ended, and Bernard acquired 
                              the interests of his deceased half-brothers in the 
                              By-Ward Market. | 
                           
                            | 1904 | Two new locations had 
                              been added, 655 Somerset (4) and 144 Nicholas (5).Three 
                              of Bernard's sons were employed, William (Bill), 
                              Jack, and Edward. | 
                           
                            | 1910 | In 1910, the Nicholas 
                              St. and Wellington Ward shops were no longer listed. 
                              Bernard was listed as proprietor of the Bank St. 
                              store, with son Jack manager and another son, Gladstone, 
                              also employed there. Bill was manager of the By-Ward 
                              stores, and Edward was manager of the Somerset store. | 
                           
                            | 1922 | Bernard died. His sons 
                              Jack, Bill and Bernard (Bun) purchased the meat 
                              business from their father's estate. Bill managed 
                              the Market store, and Bun the Sparks St. store (formerly 
                              the Wellington Ward store). Jack was employed elsewhere 
                              and did not take an active role in the business 
                              until the late 1930's. | 
                           
                            | 1928 | Two new locations had 
                              been added at 143 Queen (6) and 890 Queen (7). No 
                              reference to the Bank and Somerset Markets. | 
                           
                            | 1937 | A major change had occurred 
                              by this year. Only the By-Ward Market is listed, 
                              now as both wholesale and retail. The ownership 
                              has been structured as a company, B. Slattery Ltd., 
                              with Jack president, Bun vice-president, and Bill 
                              as secretary-treasurer and manager of operations. |
