Mission Of The Writing Center
The Writing Center is a place where students may come to write and learn to write well
in a one-to-one tutorial setting. It is also a place for teachers to
extend/expand their instruction of writing by referring students and by
participating in Writing Center programs and workshops.
The following outline summarizes
the mission of the Writing Center:
The Center develops materials, procedures, and methods for a variety of learning programs in writing.
The Center employs diagnostic tools for evaluating the writing needs, abilities, and interests of students.
The Center implements an appropriate learning program for every student-client.
The Center is of service to students across the curriculum.
The Center reinforces and enhances writing instruction across the curriculum.
The Center broadcasts and applies the New York State Language Arts Standards and the New York City Performance Standards.
The Center offers workshops to teachers for development as instructors of writing.
The Center offers workshops to students on strategies for responding to essay exams
The Center enables students to develop computer literacy in Microsoft Office, WordPerfect, and desktop publishing programs.
The Center publicizes and helps students with opportunities for scholastic achievement and contests in writing.
