"Do you like my acid rock?"
Madonna says that "Music" is a "collection of personal love songs about love and lost love".... Her motto for the new underground-style album is "less is more", she is working with a handful of new producers..... Mirwais Ahmadzai is a co-producer of "Music" with William Orbit, who only wrote two of the new tracks (not including "American Pie"). The album is about "naked emotion", says Madonna.
The album looks to have an underground and even gothic feel to it...with acid rock all the way through, slow but sharp beats. On September 17, 2000, "Music" was released in Australia, the rest of the world had to wait until the 18th for their chance. "Time Stood Still" (NBT Soundtrack) is not on the new album, but "American Pie" will be on the Australian Version plus the bonus "Shanti Ashtangi"-style "Cyber-rega". There are several versions of the album being released, one is even coming straped with a buckle, a 24-page booklet, embossed writing, it's all going to be lots of fun for the Madonna collector. The versions that Asia and UK are suupposedly getting have either "AP" or "Cyber.." on them, and not both. The track "Music" which was released first on August 19 and was directed by "Ray Of Light" director, Jonas Akerland reminds us of the "Erotica" days, going back to those underground beats. "Music" was shot in April to accomadate for Madonna's growing waist-line and everyone that was a part of the video had to sign a confidentuality agreement that nothing be said about the video until September, long after it is actually released.... "Music" the title track was released in August this year and has been described as a throbbing, funked-up dance track, and was co-produced by solo artist Mirwais. The internet was alive recently with snipets of the new single, but is in big trouble because of the "Music" teasers. An official warning was issued from Warner Bros to all those sites hounding the release of the new material. Also, Madonna has sung lead vocals on a track called Paradise (not for me) off Mirwais' new album called "Production" and "Music" Madonna says that the track was a taste of what we should expect from the new album....
The second single from "Music" was reportedly going to be "What It Feels Like For A Girl" but recent reports insist that "Don't Tell Me" will be the next single, with a filming lined up and all. The video will be shot by the photographer of "Music" Jean Baptist Mondino and will be filmed in October. Location and details are scarce at the moment. "What It Feels Like For A Girl" was later released as the third single but did not do as well on the international charts as expected. "Amazing" seems to be the next single rumored for release in the UK only...
One of my favorite tracks from the album is" Nobody's Perfect"....."Impressive Instant" has to be a single because of the pure joy you feel when listening to it. "Cyber-rega" is much like "Shanti Ashtangi" but a longer, tidier version. "Gone" is a great acoustic ballad...the use of acoustic guitar throughout the new album is great. That is one thing Madonna wanted to keep in "Ray Of Light", the guitar sound reminding her of her musical roots...she has done it again! |
