Alderman won NHRA Pro Stock national championship titles in 1990, '91 and '94; he did not compete in 1992, '93 and '96, and competed in only seven races in '95. Alderman ranks fourth in the NHRA won-lost standings for professional drivers in national events (50 or more decisions, 1970 on).

For the first six national events of '95 while he raced, and until the eighth national event of the series, Alderman was number-one in the Winston Championship standings. He finished 14th while missing 13 national events.

Alderman won three national events in 1989 and four in 1990 on the way to his first NHRA Pro Stock World Championship title. In 1991, Alderman won a record-setting 11 national events in 14 final-round appearances, set an NHRA single-season points record, won 59 eliminations rounds and earned the team's second consecutive Pro Stock World Championship title. He won five national events in 1994, and the Winston Select Invitational.
