Gary Densham, 55, driver of the Auto Club of Southern California Ford Mustang, ended 29 years of drag racing frustration last season when he earned the first and second victories of his career, beating boss and teammate John Force in final rounds at Memphis, Tenn., and Dallas, Texas.

After racing his entire career as a Funny Car independent, Densham last year faced the prospect of running a limited schedule due to decreased sponsor support. Instead, he accepted an offer to drive the third John Force Racing Mustang, which he qualified No. 1 in only his sixth race.

After earning his highest finish in the driver standings (eighth) last year, Densham made it known that he expects more this year when he set a new NHRA national speed record in the season-opening Winternationals – 326.87 miles per hour.
