"All I'd ever wanted was love, and there it was streaming out of every single thing all along."
Submitted: Ruthy Von Stein here in Clearwater .... My Encounter With Elvis... It was a subtle thing, which is unusual given we are talking about Elvis. It was nonetheless inspirational! I sang R&R in a band that played the clubs in and around Memphis. There was this club in my hometown, Newport, AR. The Silver Moon. It was our Friday night home and we did very well there. Some of the old timers there explained to me that the stage we used was the same stage that Elvis played on when he was crisscrossing the area with his original band. WOW! Really? Yes, really. As the fact began to sink in I felt a wave of awe pass through me. I approached the stage and all the noise of the rowdies in the club faded away. Could it be that the very same worn out blue carpet on this stage is where Elvis stood? I can only tell you this... for once I did not just fall for believing what I was told. This was just too important! I did some research and found that yes it was true.... The very same carpet the very same stage I strutted my stuff on every Friday night had been strutted by the King! Nothing eerie, nothing spectral, nothing any one could notice ... but me, I noticed that a sort of bond that I would hold dear for the rest of my life. I was never lucky enough to see a live performance by Elvis but I felt as though I had been there every Friday night when it was my turn to sing a song! Sadly, that building burnt to the ground and another club was built behind the place where the Silver Moon once stood. Now my life is different, as music is not my #1 priority... but Elvis......... well I just got back from Graceland for my summer vacation! Long Live the King!
