Brazil is more synonimous with football, the Carnival, and blonds penambulating on Brazillian beaches but I can assure that it is worth more than that. In choosing a destination to pursue higher education one must research carefully about the available options since any decision taken at this stage of life could go a long way to affect one's life. Hence, my effort to make an exposition about the Brazillian Educational System as  objectively as possible to help you to make  up your mind as to whether or not to make Brazil your destination.

The Brazillian Educational System
There are 3 steps in the Brazillian educational system not counting Nursey education(which is optional). The first step is the 8 years Junior High School level (this is compulsory for all brazillians). It is followed  by 3 years in a Senior High School/Professional Institution. After Senior High School, one needs to take an entrance exams(VESTIBULAR) the results of which determines whether u will be admitted or not into a Brazillian Higher Institution..Each Brazillian University has it's own Vestibular(exams in Chemistry, Physics, Maths, Biology,a Foreign language,Geography, and History). In Brazil, the Federal Universities Students don't  pay nothing to study. In the private universities you will have to pay. In my Med School, students pay $800 per month. The Federal Universities are most competitive because  they are free. For example in the University of Sćo Paulo as much as 50 students compete for  a single vacancy in it's Medical School.
However there is a way out for foreign students to study in Brazil without having to write the Vestibular. You can study here if there exists an educational accord between a Brazillian University and your government or with some universities in your country. The second option is that.there exists an accord (Educational cum Cultural) between the Brazillian government and your government. The latter is by far the most popular means by which majority of the African's here came to Brazil. This programme is called
PEC. PEC is  an accord that the Brazillian goverment maintains with countries (check out participating countries) whose tertiary educational level  are under-developed. If you are interested in doing your undergraduate studies in Brazil then read about PEC-G. This is the timetable for selection at of candidates for the PEC calendar.  These are the courses available (in portuguese) and the participating  institutions( source the Brazillian Ministry of Education). Note>The mentoring programme is still on the drawing board so any doubts or for confirmation...holla at me
Ok, now you are a PEC-G student.Lets take a look at the protocol since it is essential that you know your rights ,responsibilities, matriculation procedures, transfer rules, change of course rules..etc  as a PEC-G student. It is very important that you read this because there have been cases  whereby PEC-G students had found themselves in very unfortunate positions because they lacked knowledge about the programme. The protocol is in portuguese. Click on
Protocolo(2000) do Programa de Estudantes do Convėnio
There exists the opportunity to come on the PEC programme to pursue post-graduate studies. It is called PEC-PG.If you are a former PEC-G student and interested in the PEC-PG programme then be informed that it is obrigatory that you work as a professional for 2 years in your country after graduating in Brazil. Failure to do that, disqualifies you. The PEC-PG will be explained in depth very soon!!!!
