I have been involved in dance and dance education for 35 years. A professional for 15 years, principal and owner of my own Dance studio here in Newcastle for 12 years and the opportunity to study many styles of dance including aerobics as well as acquiring my ACPHER certificate in anatomy, fitness training, muscle useage, injuries and nutrition etc.
My dancing career commenced at the age of 4 with tuition in Ballroom, Latin American and New Vogue for 13 years, competing all over Australia at A Grade level and received coaching from various teachers of the highest level.
In 1975 my partner and I went on to represent Australia at the Open Junior South Pacific Championships in Auckland New Zealand where we were awarded 1st place in each of the Standard, New Vogue and Latin American dance styles.
Over the years my partner and I then won numerous championships with various partners, participating in dancing demonstrations, Television work as well as the promotion of the sport generally.
At 19 I began training in Jazz which resulted in the opening of the Maxi-Jazz School of Dance some ten years later. I have been involved in the business for over 13 years with the school offering Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Ballroom, New Vogue, Latin American, Hip Hop as well as Cheerleading.
I have also been choreographer,
dance captain and coach to dancers for Australia Wonderland promotions,
Civic Theatre, University Theatre spectaculars, Rescue Helicopter appeals,
large fundraising shows, various Superleague entertainment as well as involvement
with many Club variety music and dance spectacular shows including annual
concerts at Newcastle Workers Club, Griffith Duncan Theatre demonstrations,
Newcastle Show, Mattara Spectacular, Jazz Festival Ball, Model Quests,
Half time Football entertainment and the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games Closing
Ceremony.
LYNNE GEELAN
Was trained and is a fully qualified teacher under the Extensive Commonwealth Society of Teachers of Dancing Syllabus offering students tuition in Tap, Jazz, Classical Ballet, Neo Classical and Contemporary Dance, Musical Comedy and Cabaret work.
Lynn is also currently teaching the Les Griffiths Tap Syllabus (L.G.T.D.A) students sit annually for Medal Qualifications in this syllabus.
Prior to moving to Newcastle in 1995, Lynn was Principal of her own Dance studio in Ipswich, Queensland for over eight years, competing in Eisteddfods, examinations, Shopping Centre Promotions work and also served as CoOrdinator/Choreographer for the Brisbane Bandits Baseball, Brisbane United Soccer Promotions and the Queensland United Soccer Federation Squad Cheerleaders.
At 17, Lynne was selected to compete in the Open Tap section of the Fred Astaire Performing Arts International Dance Competitions in New York where she was awarded 3rd place. In addition Lynne has adjudicated at numerous dance and talent quests over the years.
