CONTEST DATE: 3/13/09 FRIDAY BOSTON ADULT TECHNICAL ACADEMY

Boston Adult Technical Academy had our first Black History Jeopardy Timeline Contest in March 2009. The contest was such a great success. The contest was held in the lower cafeteria. A traditional jeopardy board was projected onto a large screen. The board contained questions and answers, a timer, and an informative display that shows information about the teams and selections. The contest consisted of three teams of students. The students were given several pages of materials to study. The students diligently consumed the material and did very well on the contest. The contest was initiated as a result of the combined resources of teachers and the Black History Committee. The Black History Committee was composed of: Chariperson Leslie Leath Committee members AbdulMalik Jackson Ernestine Mason-Philips Billye Tousaint, Paul Salomon Maxine Wigfall Technical Assistant Michael James Question Readers Students Amanata Kroma Daniel Johnson The History classes of Paul Salomon and George Cheevers provided the student teams for the contest. Then entire program was presented with the support of the headmaster, Sheila Azores. The entire school worked together to make the contest a success. All of the teachers, students and staff gave a joint effort to provide an arena of support and learning. The Teams were: 1st Place Winners: Paul Salomon's History Class - Elisio DePina - Xiao Qian Gao - Elsie Jules - Jenny Bourdeau - Laidy Barbosa 2nd Place Winners: George Cheever's History Class - Danielle Chery - Marcus Cooper - YiFi Li - Jensis San Quentin - Claire Salomon - Jenny Bourdeau - Laidy Barbosa 3rd Place Winners Paul Salomon's History Class - Selmon Adhana - Stephane Akanda - Jade Beauport - Frantzia Carasco - Reginal Roberson It was amazing to see the diligence of so many students. Particularly, it was awesome to see the sudents who are English Language Learners reach out to embrace the culture of African American History.
