SPACE EXPLORATIONS TIMELINE 3,000BCE-1850AD |
3000BCE- Babylonian astrologer begin making metholodical observations on the skies. 1300BCE- Chinese use firework rockets and they become wide spread. 1000BCE- Babylonians record sun/moon/planetrymovements egyptiaians use the sun clock. 585BC- Thales of Miletus, a Greek astronomer of the Lonian school, predicts the angular diameter of the sun. He also predicts a solar eclipse, frightening Media and Lydia into negotiating for peace with the Greeks. 310-230BC- Aristarchus of Samus proposes that the earth spins around the sun. 276-196BC- Eratosthenes, a Greek astronomer, measures the circumferance of the Earth. He also finds the difference between planets and stars and prepares a star catalog. 150AD- Lucian of Somosata's True History was published the first science fiction about Moon voyages. He also later does Icaromenippus, another moon-voyage book. 800AD- Baghdad becomes the astronomical study centre of the world. 1271AD- Robert Anglicus attempts to document the surface and weather conditions on planets. 1420AD- Fotana designs various rockets. 1546-1601AD- Tycho Brahe measures positions of stars and planets. Supports heliocentric theory. 1564-1642AD- Galileo Galilie first uses the telescope to observe the skies. Discovers sunspots, four major sattalites on Jupiter(1610). 1591AD- Von Schmidlap writes a book about non-military rockets. Proposes rockets stabilized by sticks and rockets mounted on rockets for extra power. 1608AD- Telescopes were invented. 1672AD- Cassini, an Italian astronomer predicts that the distance between the sun and the earth is 86,000,000 miles. 1703AD- David Russens Iter Lunare: or Voyage to the Moon uses the idea of catapulting to the moon. 1775AD- Louise Foili writes Le Philosophere Sans Pretention, about a mercurian who observes earthlings. 1781AD- March 13: William Herschel made his own telescope and discovered Uranus. He also put forth theories of a habitable sun and life on other planets. 1783AD- First manned balloons made. 1807AD- Heavy rocket attack by the British on Copenhagen. 1835AD- August 25: Richard Adams Locke demonstrates the peoples susepttibility through his "Moon Hoax". 1846AD- Urban Levvirrier dicovers Neptune. |
