Genesis: Trespass
Gentle Giant: Gentle Giant
Gentle Giant: The Power And The Glory
Marvin Gaye: What's Going On
(Deluxe Edition; 2 Discs)
The most powerful soul record ever made. The packaging includes all the elements of the
original LP as well as a terrific new set of liner notes by music historian Ben Edmonds.
The result is the ultimate edition of this timeless album, and well worth the extra money
for Motown afficianados.
Philip Glass: Koyaanisqatsi
Steve Hackett: Voyage Of The Acolyte
Best album Genesis never made! Sounding like a lost Genesis album that would fit quite nicely between Foxtrot and Selling England By The Pound. Gushing with mellotrons, haunting Hackett guitar wailings, and even featuring two other Genesis members (Collins and Rutherford), most of this stuff blows away anything on the subsequent Genesis album A Trick Of The Tail.
John Hiatt: Riding With The King
John Lee Hooker: Very Best Of Boom Boom
Inti Illimani: Homage To Violeta Parra
Keith Jarrett: Belonging (47 minutes).
....Recorded 1974. Keith Jarrett's biographer, Ian Carr, refers to Belonging as "one of the greatest quartet recordings in jazz because everything about it is superlative: the compositions, the free-flowing interplay, the level of inspiration and the brilliantly focused improvising of all four musicians". Jarrett's slower compositions, Blossom and the beautiful two-minute title track, verge on sound-poetry; his up-tempo pieces are jaunty and often irresistibly joyous. The album as a whole is a faultless vindication of Jarrett's reputation for producing complex and subtle but wholly accessible music, delightful to jazz specialists and casual listeners alike. The quintessential European-quartet Jarrett recording, it not only gave its name to this particular band but set new standards for quartet jazz. Simply indispensable.
2 - Jack Johnson: Brushfire Fairytales
Engaging folk- and blues-inflected pop, with non-stop groove of great singing, great bass, great guitar, great drums, and even a little Ben-Harper-slide in there on "Flake". Born in Oahu, Hawaii, Johnson, a former surfer and film-school graduate, offers up beat tracks like "Mud Football" and slow relaxing sound like "It's All Understood". The CD is a mix of Ben Harper / G. Love style.
Nora Jones: Come Away With Me
Blue Notes Records present: Nora Jones. The daughter of Indian classical maestro Ravi Shankar and sister of Anoushka Shankar gives us a shimmering joy with the fourteen songs of Come Away With Me. Not only for fans of bluegrass or jazz.
