Mail 42: The banker is doing his best

Subject: Attn. Dr. Musu Aga: we will do what we can

Date: Tue, 20 Jan 2004 13:04:43 -0800 (PST
From Cas te Kort (banker) to Musu Aga (IBA bank)

Dear colleague Dr Musu Aga,

Thank you for your lengthy explanation. In the first place I must say that, in my point of view, it is highly unusual in international banking to pay by the Western Union system, when sums are transferred from one bank to another. International payments from Rottumerplaat are usually done by telephonic transfer. Today I could not talk about this matter with my client Dr. Max Wieldruk, he was at a party conference of the Socialist Workers' Party of Rottumerplaat. However, he asked us to effect this payment so we will do what we can do.

Let me explain again that payment by Western Union can only be done in our neighboring countries, Denmark comes to mind as the most logical. However, for us this would mean a 150-kilometre drive, and lengthy border formalities. Dr. Max Wieldruk, being the personal secretary to the Minister of the Interior in our country, is in a very high position in our country and can not possibly be expected to do this himself. You're a bank manager, just as I am, and you will understand that it won't do for a bank manager to travel abroad to make such a relatively small payment. So I can't do this. However, I would suggest that at I apply for a travel permit for one of my co-workers, a young man who works in our postal dept., Mr Onno Verwonnen, to go to Denmark and effect this payment by Western Union.

However, you wrote: "WESTERN UNION PAYMENT INFORMATION WILL INDICATE THE LOCATION AND COMPLETE CONTACT DETAILS OF THE SENDER." This is very true, but sending Mr Verwonnen to Denmark is, I think, the only way to effect this payment as you indicated. Would this be all right with you? This would mean that you receive the money, but Mr Onno Verwonnen will be the sender.

I hope I can explain to Onno how this capitalist Western Union system works. And I hope that he will keep this secret, after all, in Rottumerplaat we are supposed to use only our own revolutionary banking system. Onno is not a very bright young man, but I guess he will manage. I have to arrange for a travel permit, which takes some time, so he can effect payment from Denmark on Thursday 22 January at the earliest. I suppose there is a Western Union office in Copenhagen?

I await your answer,

=====
