Dear Jose Randy,
I wish you and yours all the best for 2004; let's hope our transaction will work out as planned!
It's new year's day here today in Rottumerplaat, with a slight bit of snow falling and the temperatures below freezing. This is excellent weather for the clog industry. As I told you the best way to keep the feet warm in such weather is wearing clogs outdoors, with straw in them. The clog industry is one of the main pillars of our economy, as I think I told you. But indeed, I am sure that more investment in the clog industry would profit both the investor and our country. So if you promise to invest a bit of money with the clog industry here, I'll be happy to settle for 20%.
I was very sorry to hear about your wife's health. I don't know much about health care in your country; I am sure that medical specialists in our country would do their utmost to achieve a cure. But the disease your wife suffers from is dreadful indeed. She looks so friendly in the picture you sent; and your children look so very young! I must not think what would happen if they were to lose their loving mother.
Let me tell you some more about myself. I am 51 years old, though people say I do not look it. I took a law degree at the University of Steenokkerzeel and was married soon afterward. Unfortunately, my first marriage broke up ten years ago, after which I found a new wife. Her name is Lies Breuk. We have two children together: a 3-year old girl called Snibbechien and a baby boy called little Adolf. I enclose a picture which was taken this Christmas, where you can see the four of us decorating the Christmas tree. Little Adolf really loved all the lights and colours in the tree. Do you celebrate Christmas with a decorated tree? Maybe a decorated banana tree, who knows.
I am not religious. Religion is not encouraged here in Rottumerplaat. After all this is an autarkic autonomous socialist republic. We pay homage to our glorious revolution. Reading the Bible is not forbidden, but at schools children learn about our great leader president Toon Ladder, who is like a Father to his people. Fortunately we can celebrate Christmas. It is a bit of a coincidence. The glorious victory of our revolution in 1962 took place on 25 December. So we celebrate the revolution, but we use the same type of Christmas decoration we were always accustomed to use.
Today being new year's day the Ministry of the Interior is closed. So are the other Ministries and the Bank, so there is not much I can do today in respect of our project. But I have the feeling we are getting to know each other better. I await your further instructions.
Oh, one thing. You sent your photos as a BMP-file, which takes up a lot of bandwidth on our satellite e-mail connection. Could you please use JPG instead if you are going to send more pictures?
(PS: your mailbox at Zwallet.com turned out to be full. So I'm sending this to your other e-mail address.)
Yours,
=====
