Coming or going? After 3(?) days in Leeuwarden we decided it was finally time to go. At least, we tried to leave.... The Trouble actually started when we tried to pack up the Ka. I mean, have you ever seen the trunk space in one of those things?! We ended up squishing as much in the trunk as possible, and the rest was packed around Matt and Dan once they got into the back seat. Well, I suppose if we got into an accident, at least they would be somewhat insulated from the impact... Once packed, we were on our way. All of the roundabouts were actually kind of fun to go around with so many people packed into the kA (^^) I happily whirled everyone around a few roundabouts and was heading out of the city when, as luck would have it, one of the bridges was open. I stopped (of course) and turned off my engine and we sat there and waited. It wasn't too bad - Marnix and I chuckled over the two sleepyheads in the back seat while we waited - the bridge was closing again before I knew it. I started up my car and got ready to go. The old woman in front of me took a little bit longer to turn on her car (no big deal), but then promptly put it into reverse and accelerated backwards before hitting her brakes! Thank goodness I had given her plenty of space, as I really had nowhere to go. She gave us all a good scare, though! (^^; I managed to get out of the city without further incident, and we were actually on the Afsluitdijk (a 30km dike that protects a good chunk of Friesland from being flooded by the sea) before Marnix realized that he hadn't brought his passport with him. We had been discussing going somewhere outside of Holland while Dan and Matt were visiting, you see. After a few more minutes of discussion, we decided to turn back and pick up Marnix's passport. So much for trying for an afternoon walking around in Den Haag! We got to Delft in the early evening and went shopping at the local supermarket for dinner. Pasta was the menu for that night. Gnocchi, two types of fettuccine and penne. :) Matt also made artichoke dip for us, and we snacked on the dip and played more "Starfarers of Catan." I made the pasta after, and everyone said it was delicious though no one ate very much. Oh well. Leftovers are always good. Time for me to shake my starship! |
