JANUARY
01/03/02:
I had my doctor's appointment today. I have gained three pounds. Still not up to my pre-pregnancy weight though. It was a bit depressing knowing I gained weight. I don't know why.
Blood pressure is good. I asked the doctor about my swelling. He said it is normal. I also asked him why my hands go numb while I am laying down. He said it is pregnancy related carpol tunnel. He said it will go away when the baby is born.
I measured 20 weeks along. I am 21 weeks 2 days so it has me a little scared that I am measuring this way. The heartbeat is 149. Nate's at this stage of my pregnancy was in the low 140's and under. So I am hoping this is another sign it's a girl.
Ultrasound is scheduled for Monday at 4. The doctor stressed that it was to see how the baby looks and not to determine the sex. I have read that a can of pop will help get the baby moving. So I plan on drinking some Coke before the appointment. Fingers crossed, the baby will show us if will shall start calling it a him or a her.

Last night, Nate was laying in bed with me watching TV. Nate loves to talk to the baby everynight. Most of the talk is him saying how he's the big brother and how much he loves the baby.
When I feel movement, the baby stops when a hand is placed on my belly. So no one besides me has felt the little life inside of me.
Last night, after one of Nate's pep talks to the baby, that changed. He kissed my belly and I started feeling kicks. So I took Nates hand and put it on my belly. It took about a minute and the baby kicked.
The look on Nates face was priceless. He was shocked and I thought for a minute he would have a potty accident. Then he was like.. "What WAS that". I told him it was his baby. He got a smile on his face and light up. When I told him he was the first person to feel the baby, he was proud as punch. It was a true Kodak moment.

We had the ultrasound today. The baby was laid back and relaxed. The baby is in a breach position and was sitting on it's legs. The tech we had was the one that we had in September when I was spotting. She took her time and explained everything to us. Everything looks great on the baby. The spine looks wonderful and the head is perfect. The heart was beating nice and strong. I don't know what the heartbeat was though.
After much searching from the tech, we were able to find out the sex of the baby. When the ultrasound was started, the baby was in breach position and sitting on it's legs. The tech showed us all the body parts, told us what she was measuring and took three pictures for us.
The first picture is of the feet. Very cute picture. The second picture is a face shot and the last picture is the head and chest. I will be adding them in a few days.
The baby moved a little but kept one knee in the spot that we needed to look at. The tech said she didn't see a penis but said that at this stage, a penis would be very small. So she didn't want to mislead us.
She did a few more measurements and decided to take one more look. The baby moved the knee and spread the legs a little. The part that we needed to look at was able to be seen. No penis was seen and the tech is 100% sure that the baby is a girl.
Jim kept telling her to be quiet. Nate started to cry. They both really wanted a boy. I of course was happy that I get my girl. But I was more happy and relieved that Jena looks healthy. The spine looks great as does the head. I refused the triple screen test and was worried. Plus knowing that so far, it looks like the medication I was on didn't have any affects on her.
Jim is warming up to the idea. Nate is still heartbroken. I kept trying to get him excited, but it doesn't seem to be working. I think he wanted a boy because Jim wanted one. I give him a month and he will be as excited as me.
We are very excited about the addition of Jenavieve LeAnne to our family. Knowing that everything is ok and seeing her, it makes it all so much realer for me. Now the fun begins. We get to start picking out pinks and frilly stuff.

We have decided that we won't be using the name Jenavieve. Besides the fact that no one I meantioned the name to liked it, I remembered that I have a friend with a daughter named Jenna. It would get a little confusing if we both got together and started to say Jenna.
So I wrote down a long list of names I like. I first went to Nathaniel who said yes or no on those names. Then we went to Mom. Of cource she is obsessed with Abigal and can't understand that I don't know that name. She liked a few of the names.
Before I went to Jim, I was leaning towards Isabell. Then I talked iwth Jim an dhe hates that name. It seems he has a bad experience with a woman names Bell. So I read the rest of the names to him.
We have agreed that Alexandrina, Gabrielle, Rebecca and Allison are in the top choices. It looks like Rebecca is the favorite name right now. Who knows what it will be in a few weeks.
