Les hopes for quick return

Les Ferdinand is hoping to return ahead of schedule from his hamstring injury. The striker suffered a tear in the muscle in our last fixture against Southampton on January 20 and was immediately ruled out for four weeks. But he has been delighted with how the problem has progressed and is clearly desperate to return to action as soon as possible.

Les declared: “I was told that I’d be out for four weeks but the way it’s improved in the last seven to eight days I don’t think I’ll be out that long. I’ll be looking to deny that logic and be back sooner. “It’s one of those niggling injuries you will pick up during a season. “I’m disappointed to have picked it up when I did but there is nothing you can do about it to be honest. “It is improving and I was running as quickly as the second day after I initially had the problem. It’s getting stronger all the time so I’m hoping to be back in the frame soon. “Having said that, as much as I want to come back, I know it’s important I don’t rush it. If it happens again it can soon become a weakness.”

Ironically, the injury came just after manager George Graham had praised him for the amount of games he had played this season. Les added: “I’ve had no injuries barring head knocks when I’ve had to miss a couple of games through doctor’s advice. “Apart from that I’ve been pleased with the season as far as fitness is concerned. This is a bit of downer but I keep positive and hopefully I’ll be back soon.”
